The Dual 3.5″ and 5″ gauge 1355ft (413mtr) long raised track was extended in the spring of 2017. It is constructed with aluminium 16mm rail on plastic sleepers on wooden trestles and has gentle gradients which suits smaller 3.5″ engines. The terrain on which the track is built slopes, meaning the track in places is cut into the ground to a depth 2.5mtr to maintain the level. The line now has a tunnel and passes under a bridge which carries a loop of the 7.25″ track and is set in beautiful mature woodland.
There are raised steaming bay’s with a mechanical traverse to load to a siding and a turntable allowing access to the main line.
Minimum radius 40ft (12.2mtr)
Until I can persuade someone to produce a new plan you will have to imagine the plan below grafted onto the right of the plan above.
Passenger trolley information for the raised track
Rail: Standard aluminium bull head
Wheels: Preferably profiled to SMEE standards, flanges should have a generous radius.
Planning has started to add a fourth rail to the RLT to make a 2.5″ track , work was started during a recent upgrade to the turntable by adding a fourth rail. Work on adding a fourth rail to the whole track hopes to be completed in the next.
In anticipation several members have all ready started building engines!
